Gave it as a gift, it’s not that bad. But perhaps I received a bad one because 2 months in it has developed a dot of rust about 3mm wide along the edge of the blade. It cuts nicely, fits well in the hand, but the rust kills the deal. It was used and stored along with wusthof knives and they never rusted so my guess is product defect or poor corrosion resistance.

I love Shun knives, and this is one of my favorites, the edge is razor sharp, the handle is solid steel and the entire knife has good balance and a nice weight to it. In addition the dumascus steel folding on the blade provides a nice aesthetic bonus. From personal exprience with this knife (I bought mine around Christmas last year) I can safely say that it holds an edge well and makes difficult tasks like qubic butternut squash fairly easy. This 6″ knife is perfect if you or your sig-other has small hands, but makes it less than ideal for cutting a watermelon or fabricating meat.
As always however, you should try out any knife before you buy it to make sure that the weight, handle shape, feel etc. is appealing to you. Make sure you spend time in the motion you would use for cutting so that you can be sure the motion is comfortable. If you cant find the all steel knife to try, the handle is identical to the shun classic line, although the knife feels (to me) a little bit heavier.
As the review title says this knife is kasherable for passover because it is one solid piece of steel (of course check with your local rabbi to be certain), but I was given the ok to kasher mine this past year.

Sharp, beautiful, balance, and stay sharp for long time! Great knife, better than German knife.

Normally I do not write reviews but I just had to this time. I bought this knife a few weeks ago to see what they hype was all about. I originally thought all knives were the same until I had a taste of Shun. It cuts through anything better than my regular knives and it stays sharper too. Performance aside, it’s a beauty to look at. You can see and feel the craftsmanship that was put into making this incredible knife. Dont think twice, just buy it!

The Shun Steel series is identical to the Classic series, but with a steel handle. As such, this is a fantastic knife. The Steel line is being discontinued, so they are some of the best buys on the market at cut-rate prices. Certainly the best buy from a non-specialty store.
Just be aware that the D-shape handle is designed for right-handed people only. Similarly, like most Japanese knives, the blade is ground with a right-handed bias. Shun also sells a left-handed version, but this is not it. Amazon should note that in the description.
